The Kaʻaʻawa Herd

Our Cow-Calf Foundation

Kaʻaʻawa Valley where our beef journey all begins – and is home to our primary cow-calf herd. Our breeding cows start the lifecycle by birthing and raising their calves in a serene, open-pasture environment. With approximately 140–150 animals, this foundational herd plays a critical role in ensuring long-term herd health and sustainability.

Our team manages this herd using seasonal breeding and intensive rotational grazing, promoting strong genetics and animal welfare while supporting healthy pasturelands. These practices lay the groundwork for our grass-fed beef program and reflect our deep commitment to land stewardship.

Where Finishers Grow Market-Ready

Once our cattle reach a certain stage, they transition to the Hakipuʻu Herd—the final stop before market. This part of the operation is focused on finishing, the last stage of growth where cattle are prepared for harvest. By keeping cattle on grass for their entire lifespan, we ensure they remain grass-fed and grass-finished—a key factor in the flavor, nutritional quality, and ethical integrity of our beef. Hakipuʻu’s expansive pastures and rich forage provide the ideal setting to support healthy weight gain and excellent meat quality.

Frequently Asked Questions

For additional questions or inquiries
Are Your Cattle Grain-Fed?

No. All of our cattle are 100% grass-fed and grass-finished. This means they are raised entirely on pasture from birth to harvest & never fed grain at any stage. Our animals graze on diverse, nutrient-rich forage across 1,700 acres of managed pasture, ensuring the beef you enjoy is both ethically raised and deeply flavorful. All of our beef is processed right here on O'ahu in partnership with Hawai'i Meats and Wong's Meat Market. This ensures our products remain local from start to finish.

Do Your Animals Receive Hormones or Antibiotics?

We do not use added hormones or routine antibiotics in our beef program. Our approach prioritizes animal health through low-stress handling, open pasture environments, and responsible herd management practices.
