Aloha, Sam Neill.

Aloha, Dr. Alan Grant.

Long before the world knew the name Jurassic Park, it knew the valley — the mist rolling over the Ko'olau cliffs, the wind moving through the same fields where, decades later, a paleontologist would stand in stunned silence at the sight of a Brachiosaurus grazing beneath the ridgeline.

That moment, filmed right here in Kaʻaʻawa Valley, became one of the most iconic scenes in cinema history — and it belonged to Sam Neill. His portrayal of Dr. Alan Grant gave generations of guests a reason to fall in love with this land, to look up at these same mountains and feel, if only for a moment, that they too had stepped into something prehistoric and impossible.

For over three decades, visitors from around the world have walked these valleys asking to see "the Jurassic Park spot," and in that asking, they carried Sam Neill's performance with them — his wonder became their wonder, his awe became the reason so many still come. Today, Kualoa Ranch joins fans across the globe in mourning the loss of a remarkable actor and an even more remarkable presence on screen. To his family, we offer our deepest condolences and our heartfelt aloha during this difficult time. And to Sam — thank you for bringing this valley to life in the hearts of millions who may never set foot here, but who will always know it because of you. E hoʻomau ka mana'o (the memory continues).
